What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful, evidence-based psychotherapy technique designed to help people heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR focuses on the brain’s natural capacity to heal, helping you "unstick" painful memories so they no longer carry the same emotional weight.

How It Works

When a traumatic or distressing event occurs, it can get locked in the nervous system with the original pictures, sounds, thoughts, and feelings. EMDR uses "bilateral stimulation" (usually through guided eye movements) to stimulate both sides of the brain. This mimics the natural processing that happens during REM sleep, allowing your brain to successfully reprocess the memory until it is no longer disruptive to your daily life.

What Can EMDR Help With?

While often associated with PTSD, EMDR is highly effective for a wide range of challenges, including:

  • Anxiety, panic attacks, and phobias

  • Distressing memories or "flashbacks"

  • Chronic self-esteem issues or "negative beliefs" about yourself

  • Complicated grief

  • Performance anxiety

What to Expect in Our Sessions

In our work together, we don’t just dive into the hard stuff. We start by building a "toolbox" of grounding techniques to ensure you feel safe and supported. We then move through a structured eight-phase approach to target specific memories. You remain fully conscious and in control throughout the entire process—I am simply there to guide your brain’s natural healing journey.
